Finally, Watching TV !!!

Works!  Here we are watching TV in the back seat of a Range Rover using the hacked DTV converter box running off the 12V car battery.   I'm only using a paper clip for an antenna and I still get lots of channels.  I recommend getting a real antenna though.

I was actually wondering if this would work!

I have some questions if you don't mind...

1) How's the picture look while your driving?

2) Does this box also pick up analog stations?

3) What type of antenna do you recommend?

I'm worried that since this box isn't made for mobile applications it won't deal with movement all that well, hopefully I'm wrong. I've been looking everywhere for a combination DVD player with a built in digital tuner but no luck so far...

My intent was to use this while parked.

1. I haven't had a chance to test while driving. I expect it will not work well when driving unless you have a specialized antenna.

2. No, the box will not pick up analog stations.

3. I recommend a Smart Antenna since it has a special connector for it.

Thanks for getting back to me!

Would you mind letting me know how it looks when moving when you have a chance to test it out?

Also any other boxes you know that receive both digital and analog signals that can run on 12V?

I appreciate your help!

The converter I got at Radio Shack needs 3.3 and 5 volts - but yours just needs 12v - much easier to adapt. It looks like your unit says "RCA" on it - do you know the model number of it? and where you buy it?

I'm also curious how well it will work when driving :)

Thanks for the write-up, dood.

I followed your instructions (well, no need to cut the notch in the box - the cord clamp just pops out), added a power-boosted stealth antenna array that sticks to the rear window, and I'm digital.

For those that asked, the digital TV signal used in the US cannot accommodate a moving vehicle - regardless of the type of antenna used.

The digital type used in Europe does work in a moving vehicle, however.
